04/27/04: Two Bethlehem, Pennsylvania Teachers Named Regional Winners in National Epidemiology Competition
Tara Richards and Theodore Schaffer were named regional winners in the Young Epidemiology Scholars (YES) Teacher Competition for developing a high school curriculum in which students learn the basic concepts of epidemiology and microbiology by using the world around them to study pathogens and diseases.

Jennifer Staple was named a regional winner in the Young Epidemiology Scholars (YES) Teacher Competition for developing a high school curriculum that combines service learning with the study of efforts to control diseases worldwide.

04/19/04: YES Student Winners Announced
Research projects about smallpox vaccination policies and indoor tanning by teenagers took top honors today at the first-ever Young Epidemiology Scholars (YES) Competition. High school students Benjamin Eidelson of Merion Station, Pa., and Robert Levine of Lincolnshire, Ill., each earned $50,000 scholarships as first-place winners in the contest.

05/15/03: New Scholarship Competition Focuses on Health Issues
How does SARS spread, and what can be done to stop it? What are the many factors contributing to the obesity epidemic that's sweeping our nation? How can we protect communities from West Nile Virus? As these and other public health challenges dominate the news, The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) and the College Board today launched the Young Epidemiology Scholars (YES) student competition. With nearly half a million dollars in total scholarship awards, the program encourages high school juniors and seniors to learn more about epidemiology, the basic science of public health.

05/05/03: Young Epidemiology Scholars (YES) Teacher Competition Seeks Innovative High School Curricula
The Young Epidemiology Scholars (YES) program today begins its second annual teacher competition. YES is sponsored by The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) and administered by the College Board. With up to $180,000 in awards offered to teachers each year, the YES competition attracts some of the nation's best teachers from diverse fields of study.

01/06/03: $75,000 Awarded to High School Teachers in the First Young Epidemiology Scholars (YES) Teacher Competition
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) and the College Board announced today the names of eight high school teachers whose model curricula were selected as winners in the 2002 Young Epidemiology Scholars (YES) Teacher Competition. The eight teachers, who submitted six different models for innovative high school epidemiology curricula, were honored with national and regional awards totaling $75,000. They will be recognized at the College Board's Regional Meetings in February.
